Eating banana and plantain strengthen the surface cells of the stomach lining, making a stronger barrier against digestive juices. Rats fed banana powder had a thicker stomach lining, while rats fed aspirin have thinner stomach lining. When rats are fed both banana powder and aspirin, the banana counteracted the drug's erosive effects. In fact, the stomach lining still increased by almost 20%. So if you have to take aspirin for any reason, make sure you eat some banana as well.
Banana also contain high pectin content which helps lower chloresterol. This is another reason to put bananas on your diet.
